Wow!
It's been awhile since I've updated..
Basically:
Friday:
-) Help give a couple of tours..
Saturday:
-) Worked the Oktoberfest..
-) Painted faces non-stop for 5+ hours strait at the Kinderplatts (sp?) tent
I suck at face painting..kids are happy if it looks even romotely like what they ask for and is bright and colorful..
I, however, wish I could sketch out the drawings on their faces and I kept erasing some because I'm way too perfectionist when it comes to drawing..
The kids asked for things like a tiger or a puppy..most people would paint a profile of the whole animal..I end up taking 10-15 min. to draw a cartoon character's mug shot..
Grapes and cherries are circles..so are pumpkins, right?..........NOT WITH ME!! I have to give the grapes and cherries dimension..and my pumpkins look like "M"s..
There was one girl (who I often call these people "angels in disguise" because THEY are the people that were born to save the world in small ways through kindness) who came over (she was maybe 5 or 7) and she heard me talk about how much I suck at this..she asked for something on her hand and was like, "If you don't know how to draw that, you can draw something else.." and was just plain NICE..nicer than other kids I knew..parents do NOT teach this..I believe that kind of niceness lives within the soul..so it was nice to see someone so young try to cheer up a "grown up"..
My best work was the dolphins I drew on this girl who had never had a face painting before..I drew 2 dolphins on her arm..then I painted water near her hand..
If they allowed me enough time, I would have painted her hand blue and painted fish and alge under the water on her fingers and would have also painted a spiral sun and a white cloud or two and maybe some far away birds..
SEE?? "Dolphins" to me doesn't mean A dolphin..it means a whole scene!
I think WAY too "holographically"..
-) Matt, Jason, and Bill worked there as well in the afternoon..
It was SO funny!
Matt came over and was like, "Bill and Jason and I are gonna ask those hot girls over there if they wanna dance with us on stage.."
Like I do with all my friends (male and female) who point out hot people or their crush, I look over and say, "WHERE???"
Usually, my friends get mad at that..but if they don't (and Matt didn't even catch it), I then point and say "YOU MEAN OVER THERE????!!"
It cracks me up to see my friends freak out and get nervous when the people I point at are usually looking away..
Matt was like, "You're killing me, Hope!"
Well, the next thing I know, Jason and Matt are on stage about to do a polka..I just HAD to get pictures and video!!!
Well, after the polka, they got off stage..the girls weren't up there, but were in the audience having fun doing kid stuff..
The accordian lady asked for more dancers to do the "Chicken Dance", so Jason and Matt got back up there..
What impresses me the most about Matt and the few other guys I know that are like him is that they'll go on stage in front of people (even girls they were going to ask out) and do a dance or something THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW!!!
Now THAT is cool!
Jason gave him a crash course in the "Chicken Dance"..he gave it a good try, but was funny was the "Classic Matt Face" that Matt gave after the accordian lady said they were going to do the chorus again..it's kinda like he holds his hands together and looks over kinda like, "ARE YOU SERIOUS??"
It was so funny!! But it was cool, too!
The neat thing was that the so called, "Hot Girls" (I have trouble saying if girls are hot in my opinion because I'm not a guy or gay and from what I've seen "hot" changes from guy to guy just like from girl to girl..but they were physically fit and were wearing cool clothes..but they looked like a lot of my friends I had in high school) came over to THE GUYS and looked like they hit on them! It is SO funny to see the look on guys faces, even good looking guys like Jason, Bill, and Matt (who you would think between personality and looks would have no trouble talking to girls), when "hot" girls talk to them..it's like there faces were like, "OMG, is this really happening??? These girls are talking to US???"
Matt ended up sending over one of the girls to have me paint her face..her and her friend had the personalities of most of my closer friends I had over the last 10 years..THEY WERE THE ONLY ONES to get my sarcastic jokes about how I suck at face painting..
I was painting grapes on one of their faces and Matt kept asking, "What is that supposed to be?" and stuff and then he figured out it was grapes and was like, "Good thing you picked something with circles..Hope's good at circles.."
It was fun! and Matt actually got a date with the girl I did the painting on, so that was cool..
Sunday:
-) Worked the Oktoberfest again
-) There was no parking in the volunteer lot
-) I parked in the lot that was a $5 lot on Saturday, but the $5 guy wasn't there..so it was free..MUCH better than the $10 lot..
-) I waited a half hour for someone to walk by and help me with getting my 127 lbs. wheelchair out of my car..no one walked by..
-) I was about to leave and had my keys hanging out of my ignition when some family walked by..
They helped me get my chair out, but I locked the door like I usually do..
-) I locked my keys in my car!!!!!
-) Thank GOD for AAA..they came within 15-20 min. and unlocked my car for free!
-) The nice cop lady (all Columbus cops seem SO nice!!!!) later said the Cols. cops used to be able to unlock cars for free, but the police chief decided to have the cars not have the tools to unlock cars..
-) I met the MOST INTELLIGENT 3 YR OLD EVER!! She had me convinced she was nine..
I thought she was joking when she said she was nine, thinking she was 4 or 5 at the most..
At first, she was trying to face paint the other face painters (I think they were in their early teens)..
The neat thing was to see how kids think..
The girl would dip her brush in the water and the glitter and brush it on the different pictures that were drawn on a bag to show examples..she thought at first, that's how you get the picture onto the brush and paint it onto the person's face..
Then she thought you could only get the color from the pictures, so when she wanted blue, she brushed the blue picture..
one of the girls took the bag away and tried to explain you aren't supposed to pain on it..
honestly, you either take it away immediately or, in this case, she wasn't hurting anything, let her keep doing it!
She came over to me and I let her paint my arm and face..
She could actually take the brush, get it wet, and brush the corret part of the crayons and paint on me!! That was neat to see! I never knew a 3 year old that could do that! I knew a 4 year old once who could count to 100 by drawing "mountains"..but this was really neat to see!
After that, she was throwing a baton (pretty safely) up into the air and catching it..then she danced to the music really cool! She went with the beat and even moonwalked! She also break danced and other dances, too!
She talked very well and could carry on a conversation..
Her sister came over and she was the one who told me she was nine and her younger sister I have been watching was three! Those kids were SMART!! the older sister was smart like most 9 year olds I've ever known..
I swear, I wanna know were these kids went to day care and school because I want my kid(s) that I'll have someday to have that kind of education..
I think what makes these kids so smart (including Susan's and other friends of mine's kids) is having them around loud, intelligent, talkative people..not only does it teach extroversion (which in a way, I think helps kids learn faster), but they hear patterns in speech which leads to better speech and actually develops the math and language part of their brains..
So someday when I'm pregnant and have a kid or kids, I'm going to surround myself with people I already surround myself with (fun, outgoing, smart people) and talkative people, too..
It worked with me..I learned how to speak and read much earlier because my parents are talkative and put me in a daycare with a lot of other age groups and taught me stuff early and made it fun..
I think it was the Girl Scouts and maybe a genetic leaning toward community involvement (now my dad is the web master of Ashville, Ohio Online, the vice president of the Ashville Area Heritage Society, part of Ashville Kiwanis, webmaster and member of the Roundtown UFO Society, and a psychic said he might be a coucilmen (sp?) soon) that got me really wanting to be a Student Ambassador..
That, and last year at Kitty's college (Ohio University - Chilicothe)'s Holloween on the Hilltop where I kept seeing college students participate and I was like, "I seriously need to find a way I can participate like that at CSCC"..and now I do, and I'm glad I applied to be an SA..
I'm going to try out for senior (it's hard because, even tho I'm competitive, I feel weird competing against friends who deserve the position as much or more than I do)..it's going to be different, but I crave having new and different situations thrown at me..
Lately, I've been telling people how competitive I am..but I think it sounds like I "steal" ideas..I don't "steal" ideas, that's cruel and backstabbing..what I do is take what ideas I hear and turn it into something BETTER..and if I get the idea from someone else, I give them credit (like asking questions during my presentation came from the person from the last set of SAs)..
Monday:
-) Worked the bake sale! We bought a goat from Heifer International..it's an organization that gives farm animals to improvershed countries so they can have the ability to feed themselves and breed their animal and give it to another neighbor to do the same thing..
-) Worked the Circleville College Fair..the same fair that inspired me to go to CSCC..
I went around and got ideas about how we could make our booth and college better..
At our booth, we need pretty boards with the majors on them and another with student activities and sports..we also need a mascot toy sitting there and a slide show on a laptop..
I also found out that if I wanted to go to the best colleges for Photojournalism, I'd have a 2 1/2 hour or more commute either way..Ohio University has the best in the country I guess and there's also Bowling Green University and Kent State University..
I might end up still going to Ohio State University and double major in Photojournalism and Photography..it would be cheaper, smaller commute, and in a city I know (somewhat) and LOVE..
Tuesday:
-) Gave a tour
-) I forgot that Jeff from Bridgeview was coming to talk to our class, so I had my SA T-shirt on instead of something more professional..
Randy is doing a lot because he's the only one in class that golfs..
Jim (the teacher) showed us the boom mics he bought for the AVP classes..
Everyone kept talking about how heavy it was..I asked if it was heavier than the cameras (around 3.5 lbs. I think) and they said yes..actually it was about the same when folded..
Once you stretch out the handle, it multiplies the weight of course and I think in the end it was 10-12 lbs? Honestly, even tho after about 15 sec. my arm started shaking, I think I can strengthen my arms to eventually hold twice as much weight for twice as long..
Wednesday:
-) At lunch, my more liberal side came out as I talked against the gay marriage ban..I'm even more against it now because Matt said he wants to have a big family, but doesn't want to get married..SEE?? This stupid gay marriage ban law effects people like him and he's not even gay..I don't think it's fair to him and whoever he ends up with that they can't have benefits like a married couple just because they aren't legally married..
I also was talking about abortion and how babies supposedly don't feel pain until after the first trimester and wh would "God" put a soul in a couple of cells? Life is for learning and experiencing..what does a soul learn from being a couple of multiplying cells..
Thursday:
-) I didn't feel very good yesterday, but I went to work anyway..
-) since the welcome center/international services were having a meeting, I didn't really have anything to do..but I kept getting sicker..
-) was practically dragged to the International Student Association's potluck by Kristy and friends..
got to play a game..gawd, I'm competitive!
But the food didn't help my stomach
I went home instead of class
I wanted a one-hour nap, but ended up passing out for 6+ hours and still slept all morning..
Other News:
I have evnough people wanting what apparently is more likely to be called the "Book and Movie Club" that I'll get the paperwork going to start it in the Winter Quarter..I'm gonna ask Jenny to be vice president and Johnny to be the secretary (and maybe tresurer)..
This will go nicely with Jim's "Movie Days" idea (I came up with the BMC 2 weeks before he mentioned the "Movie Days") where AVP students watch a movie every week and write a paper about it or discuss it and write a paper..
I still would like to have Jim be the faculty advisor for the BMC, but he might be too busy..
I don't want the club to become too class like, so there will be no papers, just a 30 min. discussion at the end..
The first meeting will be having everyone pick which movies they'd like to see in the coming weeks and the first movie will be Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (a quick classic read about book burning and the importance of reading)..the movie doesn't follow the book a whole lot, but the movie keeps the importance of the concept, so I like them both..
They are supposed to have made a remake of it this year..I can't wait to see that!
My mom thinks the members of the club wouldn't want to go as deep as Shakespeare or Orwell, but that's the whole point..to get people to be more interested in reading, especially stuff they wouldn't have read before..
