I remember being in a “dream game” environment and there were blue lockers everywhere, even on central pillars. I had a heavy black backpack somehow hung on my locker. A female character told me to run because something bad was coming. I wanted to see what this bad thing was and defeat it. I knew I didn’t have time to grab my stuff, so I just hid behind a pillar and watched a moving, changing space/object enter the room. It was crawling on the floor and I didn’t know how to defeat it or if it could hear my heartbeat or smell me. I tried to stealth it by staying on the opposite side of the pillar as it moved around. I don’t remember if I had a weapon, but the scary thing turned into a VERY large, but adorable bulldog. I thought it was clever because it’s cute AND can kill you and I’d feel bad about even attempting to hurt a dog. It was sniffing out my location, though.
This “game” ran a few times and I remember remaking it to have either a wooden or metal bat randomly appear in any of the lockers.
I was telling someone about my 3D interface idea for my final project and they said something similar had been done with a wall mounted shelf and the user would take objects and put them in the shelf to run a specific program. I was like, “I stealing this idea!”
Later, I woke up and realized that was from my own mind. I went back to sleep trying to think how I could use it in waking life. I thought of something in Dream 4.
I remember being in a mall similar to the one on E. State Street. The floor had square brown tiles and the storefronts were openings to “dream games” or environments. I would love to use this in waking life as ways people could go from a landing page to other programs. Second Life used signs and boxes as portals, this dream had a seamless entry into the environments.
I kinda wanted to go to the Cincinnati Zoo for some reason, but the opening went down a half-mile path under a highway just to get to the zoo. I was thirsty and needed water and thought it was a lot of needless walking, especially without water. I do remember a food truck that was selling flavored ice off to the left of the tunnel entrance that reminded me of the one that was outside the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum back in July.
I took the tunnel and ended up in what looked like a Goodwill store. I was confused because I was trying to get to the zoo. I looked around and there was a kiosk of small novelty pamphlets. One had an image of my dad. I laughed and picked it up and looked through it thinking my dad did some random side project. I looked back and the image changed to someone similar looking, but not my dad. That should have been a sign I was dreaming since I even had a conversation around 3 weeks ago in waking life where Owen told me to look at text or a clock or image, look away, then look back and if it changed, I was probably dreaming. But, of course, I just chalked it up to being wrong in the first place.
I somehow ended up in a “social room” where they are like group chats/rooms in that old Palace program from the late 1990s/early 2000s. The people there were hippies all gathering to write songs about the sun or something and their room reminded me of the 60s/70s – way too much corduroy and saffron-colored things. My Intro to VR teacher was part of the group and was the only one who recognized me.
I randomly yelled out, “BOOKSTORE!!!!!” at him and the others. I had just come up with the idea I’d use the wall-mounted shelving idea where people could place books in the shelf and use augmented reality to access the book trailer, more information, etc. and featured books could be in the shelves on a wall.
I remember attending a conference in “the movie theater,” but it seemed also like the Union Terminal in Cincinnati that I visited on Jan. 2. I got to the auditorium doors and sat on a bench. There were others waiting and talking as well. I asked what time it was and I still had 10 min.
I decided that was enough time to rush to the restroom and get food. Although it is disgusting, I decided to get food first while the line was short and it was farther away than the restroom. I found they had some kind of square cheesecake slices and cups of pineapple pieces in juice.
The presentation was interesting and I remember a male presenter saying that we as a society need to focus less on strict deadlines, alarm clocks, snooze buttons, and how much sleep we think we are getting and more on getting quality, uninterrupted sleep.
I remember being in my parents’ house pre-2004 renovation. I remember wanting badly to go to a Fourth of July celebration happening at Buckeye Lake. I then thought about how far that was and how crowded and wondered if Indian Lake would be a better because I liked that place. Then, I thought it would be just as far and busy. I REALLY wanted to be on the water for Independence Day for some reason. Edwin* was there and suggested some place in Kentucky – Newport, I think.
Daniel*, who is hardly ever in my dreams, was there and I won’t provide details, but it was weird. Nice, but weird.
* Names were changed.
I fell on the ice yesterday, so now I’m covered in bruises and REALLY sore all over. This is interfering with my appetite, so I didn’t eat enough before going to bed.
The title is what I wrote down at 2:30 a.m. lol
I remember being in a large library – it felt “local,” but it was huge like it served as a university library.
I remember sitting on a white couch and looking at Instagram on my phone. I realized one of the photos was from the same seat I was in and I was going to take a picture from the same view as a joke. As I lined up the shot, I could hear what sounded like cable news. A girl sitting on a couch in front of me kept looking back at me, annoyed. I realized my phone was making the camera sound.
Someone who worked at the library came over and told me to turn down my phone. I apologized and realized the cable news voices were from my phone in a hidden app.
Later, I remember taking pictures with a strange camera app interface of a weird lizard figurine in the library. I remember a woman who worked there saying the library closed at 9 p.m. and I looked at the time and it was 9:12 p.m.
I went into another room and the lights started going out. I tried to blindly find my way out through the hallways and I said, “Hello? Lights?” hoping people would realize I was still there and light my way out. I eventually found a lit room.
There was also a connection to a scene that took place in the daylight where I was in a parking lot and some “cute nerd” told my dad some “hot nerd” was being mean to me. There was an orange/red ’70s car that drove off. The “hot nerd’s” mother got out to confront my dad and I remember thinking that her plastic surgery was f-ed up because her face was weird looking.
When I woke up, I had a memory of being in that library before. There was a dream I had recently that took place there, but there was a memory about being there for a shorter time that I wanted to be there. I’m not sure if that was a dream, a memory in last night’s dream, or a real memory from my childhood. I kept trying to remember more of the memory, but I ended up with a headache.
I went back to sleep and it turned into a weird dream that I was in a city neighborhood of a college town (I keep thinking it was the University of Cincinnati with all of the Bearcat symbology), but it was being used as a “set” for a Jurassic Park film/interactive-immersive entertainment thing. I loved the location, but I felt there was a real danger.
I remember being in a large room with computer desks or checkout counters in a crowd facing a wall of windows. I was worried and looked for places to hide. I kept thinking I’d hide on the bottom shelf of a computer desk (they were that cheap Walmart kind), but I worried that taking out the shelf to fit would slow me down.
There was a good-looking guy to my left who was just as worried and kept saying we (the crowd) need to do SOMETHING, not just stand there. The rest of the crowd seemed to think he was nuts. I liked that he spoke up.
We were then moved to a back room, but I thought it wouldn’t really work and kept looking for places to hide, wondering if dinosaurs could smell.
I nudged the guy and pointed at the bottom of a larger desk. He got the message and we cleared the crap that was being stored there in case we needed to hide later.
In the crowd, we walked by an open meat freezer. I thought if worse comes to worst, we’ll hide there.
I remember fewer details of this dream, but it was about going around town with a small group of friends. “Town” being a city (I think it was a futuristic Cincinnati).
The crazy parts that should have made me realize I was dreaming were things like flying cars. They weren’t REALLY flying, they were magnetic, but somehow allowed space between the “road” and the car, but kept the car from flying off the “highway.” The highway was designed to look like a looping knot that formed an upright tall flower. I loved the views from being up high, but couldn’t understand how we don’t fly off the track.
I remember discussing how the neighborhood near the college was a “bad” neighborhood.
There was a scene where a friend (some black female) told us about how I was put in the dorm room near the heating equipment because it was noisy. To get a better dorm, you have to bribe someone. I didn’t mind the room – the noise didn’t bother me.
Note: There were two other dreams I remember that took place in these dorms and I’ll link them when I find them.
I remember following them out, but I took a wrong turn and ended up on a road in a tunnel under a highway. It was blocked by an old tan Honda Accord. There was a guy and a girl that was walking a dog going that way, so I thought it was the correct way. I grabbed the car and easily pulled the wreckage to the side. It revealed a locked door with the style and font of the Cincinnati Museum saying the place was closed. The other people shrugged and turned around.
Note: In October 2015, I had a discussion with someone who used to work at UC and she said the neighborhood near the college was so bad, she was always warned not to walk to her car alone.
So this was a weird scavenger hunt of a dream.
I remember looking out of a large, dusty store window out into a parking lot of an old strip mall / shopping center. The window even had old peeling paint and mold. Somehow, it was a part of the apartment or apartment complex I lived in in the dream.
Outside, there was a bad storm with tons of flooding. The water was about 2.5 feet deep and buildings were falling apart. A steel pillar near the window fell, taking down one of those colorful triangle banners with it. It remained attached to another steel pillar, but it didn’t tear completely down.
Later, I remember walking around and driving around the parking lot the window faced and it was completely dry. There was a Kroger as the main building, but the “apartment” and other shops lined the street, turning the parking lot into an enclosure.
The shops, grocery store, etc. were old and decaying and the parking lot was faded and full of potholes and dislocated broken concrete barriers. It looked like a place I’d explore in waking life.
I was there supposedly to see if I could find Charlie*. It was a weird dream where it was almost like a game where the dream gave clues to his location.
I remember the GPS map showing he worked at a building that was at where the road angled. However, the real road didn’t have such a distinct angle. I found the point on the map as a small store – I think it was a place that sold cell phones – painted blue with cute Bengal tigers painted on one door on each side, making the door, the tummy of the tiger.
The number of the building was 730. I memorized it by getting the old Sugar Ray song “Every Morning” in my head and singing 7:30 instead of “every morning.”
Supposedly, this meant that his location was somewhere in Cincinnati in a building with the number 730.
Somewhere in the dream, a friend from high school, Kelly* said hi and said something about me “liking the D.” I was like, WOAH, hey now, where did that come from? She said it in a way that seemed like she was implying that I slept around with random guys. I was like, who told you this rumor? It didn’t dawn on me until later, that it was another clue. It was said like that to make me remember the clue, which was the letter D.
Later, I was getting into my car in the parking lot over on the other side of the “apartment” when Doug*, another high school friend of both Charlie and I, came over to talk to me. He was angry about something and talked about how they can’t even find Charlie. I didn’t want him to know I was there to find him, so I said, “Charlie?” (We had more than one we both knew) and he said, “Yeah. Charlie LEWIS [last name].” Then, he walked off.
I was like, LEWIS? That’s not his name. Must have been another clue.
I walked to the front of the blue tiger building. It had blue awnings with yellow writing. I wanted to see the name of the company, but I woke up from my alarm right when I was about to read it.
* Names have been changed.
