I’m half asleep, so this will not be very detailed. I might return and put more details later.
I remember telling a class of students, “I’m not the teacher, I’m only the facilitator.” Apparently, two students were out and didn’t complete their homework because they were about to have babies.
Later, I was on some moving platform and I took out my phone to email the students to look at the syllabus regarding excused absences/late work. I put the phone away and knew I was on some sort of time travel machine. There was a pool of still green liquid with glittery sparkles next to me.
The platform moved to an edge and turned around. It was like a roller coaster – it went to that edge to have enough room to accelerate. It accelerated straight at a solid metal door. I thought, “What’s the good at holding my arm up and closing my eyes?” So I looked at the door as I went toward it.
Just as I reached it, the door flipped open, revealing a long dark tunnel with a light at the end. The platform accelerated even faster.
At the end, I was disappointed. The ride ended under some raised highway and I was greeted by some person in a lizard costume and another amusement park employee.
I really wanted to time travel.
Maybe I did travel…to the future!
I remember checking out an athletic gym on opening day. This one had a twist – it used a smaller space by manipulating gravity. It was cool and I kept thinking I needed to post a photo to Instagram about how you can exercise upside-down. I kept worrying, though, that I’d fall to the ceiling.
I seriously wish this dream comes true someday. It was awesome.
I found a sci-fi series that already had four seasons and still running that had a female protagonist and was set in the near future. The show dealt with the social and cultural aspects of artificial intelligence. The protagonist was a character that was good, but also had shady connections that required thwarting security.
The show was an “experience” where, if you viewed the episodes online, you could have an immersive experience using Google Cardboard and other apps to add to the story. The Google Cardboard/Oculus Rift parts dealt with seeing the environments the story took place in – one was as the protagonist in an alley and the “game” was pointing out areas that might have a security camera. Another part was playing a detective/law enforcement person and going through “police reports” and listening to interviews (using AI within the website) to fill in the backstory of the characters. While that’s going on, you can add security camera feeds that notify you of when motion is detected. Many are false alarms, but also some scenes that advance the plot and add to the backstory.
IT WAS SO AWESOME. I even dreamed I told my mom about it and tried to get her interested.
Part of that turned into a dream where I was in the protagonist’s character in a flashback. I remember being in her bedroom and that parts were visible from the stairwell in the three-story home.
Outside, in and alley, there was a structure with three garage doors. A friend who was a bit more gutsy with exploring and I got into it through a regular door. We found that there was a smaller garage with one large door within a “shell.” I switched to the gutsy character. As her, I found a side door and used a flashlight to look around inside despite the other character being worried. The space was empty except for a large cart/trailer thing with pieces of wood that were cut to be squiggly and painted orange. I thought they were part of a stage production. I also thought the location would be a good hidden location because no one would know that it wasn’t a three-car garage from the outside.
I remember going into a lab in a college where I worked and some professor came in with a student to have them make up an assignment. I remember being half-asleep (really it was because I WAS asleep) and tried to find a way to appear that I was actually being productive. I remember pulling up a map on my tablet and zooming in. There was also something about turning on more lights in the room.
Later, I was at a weekend conference at OU where I do work in waking life and someone visiting got the school mixed up with Ohio State. She had an OSU store/bookstore gift card and I told her if she didn’t use it online, she should still go up to Columbus because there are free things to see like the library and the museum (it’s free on Sunday) and parks.
I remember trying to figure out if I was in a lucid dream by saying, “If I am dreaming, I can…” and made up things. They would come true for the most part, but some things were not exact.
I woke up in my car outside of some apartments at night. I opened the door and I was parked in a parking lot across from a river and a sidewalk. It was a comfortable temperature (maybe 60s?). Some southeast Asian girl to my left was wearing a coat and sat against my car as if she were waiting for someone. She looked at me like I was weird for sleeping in my car. I probably had the same face because she was leaning against a stranger’s car while they slept in it.
About one spot away, there was a guy sitting in the passenger side facing the river holding a camera or cell phone videoing the people walking by. His friend arrived exiting a pedestrian bridge, holding some guy, helping him walk. It was too dark to tell if the guy was drunk, beat up, or sick.
I remember looking at a great skyline that was partly covered by some trees on the right and considered staying at the apartment for another year because the view was good. I don’t remember what city it was, though. Outside of a general LeVeque Tower-looking building and the open spaces between the buildings (so not a LARGE city like NYC), nothing stood out that I could recognize.
I think elements in the dream were supposed to make me realize it was a dream, but it didn’t work.
There was a green (a shade of dream green) lizard, an iguana, but I kept calling it a salamander.
It kept growing to a large size and even “swam” through the air, but I didn’t realize it was a dream I kept picturing a garden to let it go in.
I remember being in auditorium-like seating and staring at some lady who looked like an actress.
She confronted me later and I explained she looked like an actress (I couldn’t remember the name). She invited me out – it was awkward because it felt like she was asking me out on a romantic date, but I’m not gay, so it was just a little weird.
I ended up not following her and going in a different direction in a city.
I remember running into Charlie* in this dream. He took a lighter and burnt part of the back driver’s side door. I got mad, telling him it was a leased car.
I tried moving his hand and lighter away from my car and it went close to his face, lighting the edges of his eyebrows on fire.
It was like a way to remember the dream – for both of us. (I’m so putting this idea in a dream tech story.)
Later, Hillary* from high school got into a post-apocalyptic version of a COTA bus. I got in a passenger seat, thinking Charlie would stand in the stairwell. He didn’t get in.
Later, I was in the stairwell. We went by what Hillary called “gates.” I called them exits. They were half-built interstate highways going over a large river. There were exposed elevators.
We somehow drove through one “gate” and I was worried the bus was too long to get through an elevator cleanly. I was right, it got stuck. We still got down, though.
* Names have been changed.
I drank a half a can of an energy drink and ate a ripe banana before going to bed. It took me a while to sleep, but when I did, my dreams were very vivid. The one I wrote down notes for was this:
I remember a house that was a hospital on one side and a normal house on the other. I’m not sure, but I think I started as a patient.
I remember picking up random brochures from a wall to read. One was very old and the graphic design included rounded rectangles with neon green (”dream green”) borders. One of the pages had a 1990s two-page fold out of TLC and it even had, “Oooooh, On the TLC Tiiiip!” in a weird 1990s font.
I remember sitting on a couch near a window as some other people and I watched a movie on a 36-inch TV. We kept feeling shaking and we thought it was a promo for Jurassic World because it was like those T-Rex steps and we even heard dinosaur noises. I moved back the curtain and outside, it was nighttime and raining hard. Across from the house, there was a cheesy theme park with dinosaurs (think Dinosaur World). The guy to my right kept getting annoyed by the sounds outside. I said me and some other guy had the same issue in another theater and this guy said the park shouldn’t have been built so close.
Knowing I was half-dreaming, I pictured a raptor from the movie slamming its head through the window and I tried to think what I’d do if that happened. Instead of that happening, I heard a shrill woman’s voice saying, “A corpse!” I looked over and the lady knocked into and tripped over a nurse pushing a cart. A stainless steel tray went flying. She got back up and went to the window and pointed screaming, “A corpse!!!”
People ran, but I can’t remember much until I went back to the rooms (that were now like my parents’ house (before the 2004 renovation). The light switch in the first bedroom didn’t work and I assumed it was a power outage. I tried the light in the second bedroom and it didn’t work and I didn’t understand why because the equipment at the far side of the room had lights on it (dream green, again).
I went looking for a flashlight and found a weird red pill-shaped one on the ground, but something in my hand prevented me from picking it up. I realized it was a telescoping magnet. In my dream, it had a flashlight on the end.
That’s when I noticed the house seemed empty. The old dining room appeared as it did during the renovation. I said, “Hello?”
I heard a loud AIM sound and went to the old living room. In the old brown chair we used to have, a guy pushed a laptop off of his lap and asked me, “Where have you been?
After that, I had multiple false awakenings where I looked at my cell phone clock out of habit (I keep track of my sleep cycle length) and I checked it at least five times between 3:30 and 3:34 a.m. I’m not sure which ones were real. Of course, the last one was because I wrote down notes about my dream.
For the rest of the night, I kept having similar false awakenings and lucid dreams and some had some dream about color coded cards related to the false awakenings. I kept waking up with a racing heart.
I remember telling someone or maybe also thinking about (while entering an elevator) about how bullets would move a car if it were shot while moving or even standing still. They would penetrate and go through, but the car would definitely move from the impact.
Next, I remember parking my car in an apartment parking lot at night. The pavement was damp and reflected the light in a neat way. I walked around the apartments and grabbed something and started walking back. On my way, I saw a girl walking toward the road. I thought it was weird, but I thought, “It’s a free country. You can walk alone down a dark wet road all you want…”
I threw away what I had in my hand in a metal garbage can near the dumpsters in the back. There were fir trees beyond the parking lot. My car was not the red one I have in waking life, but an older silver model. There was a person watching me in the parking lot. I got in my car and the guy fired a gun at me as I left. I drove away fast.
The next scene, I was driving and stopped as I found the girl from earlier in the middle of the road pointing the gun at me. This scene happened at least twice – one time with my family in the car. I bent down/told everyone to get down. The girl started shooting, sending tempered and safety glass onto me/us and bullets went through the head rests, tearing them apart. It sent the interior yellow foam flying and frayed the fabric.
Without looking, I slammed on the gas pedal and ran into the girl as hard as I could. In both scenes, the girl bounced off the hood and over the top of the car. I kept driving.
It went back to being just me and I remember the windshield only having some glass along the edges and parts were bent/moving with the wind. It was a decent night out and only a few sprinkles, so I shrugged at the situation and relaxed as I drove as if everything was ordinary.
I remember a small scene where I felt it was too dark and tried to turn on my brights.
One of the iterations had a scene where I stopped and let some girl in an oversized blue sweatshirt walk across the street.
Eventually, I ended up somewhere that had tall shelving with game systems with green lights. (Dream green!) The wall of the area was painted black. I think there was an old CRT TV/Monitor on a high shelf. I remember it was connected to a dream game I was playing, but I was disappointed because the dream game was only three levels and I had already played them all and knew what to expect.
I remember looking at the area and picturing a “crew” building the area. It wasn’t the first like that – it was built as part of a job of some sort. I remember thinking about just going home and how weird it was that I had this small place to randomly go at night and play games. I reached over and grabbed a PS3 controller and woke up.
