I drank a half a can of an energy drink and ate a ripe banana before going to bed. It took me a while to sleep, but when I did, my dreams were very vivid. The one I wrote down notes for was this:
I remember a house that was a hospital on one side and a normal house on the other. I’m not sure, but I think I started as a patient.
I remember picking up random brochures from a wall to read. One was very old and the graphic design included rounded rectangles with neon green (”dream green”) borders. One of the pages had a 1990s two-page fold out of TLC and it even had, “Oooooh, On the TLC Tiiiip!” in a weird 1990s font.
I remember sitting on a couch near a window as some other people and I watched a movie on a 36-inch TV. We kept feeling shaking and we thought it was a promo for Jurassic World because it was like those T-Rex steps and we even heard dinosaur noises. I moved back the curtain and outside, it was nighttime and raining hard. Across from the house, there was a cheesy theme park with dinosaurs (think Dinosaur World). The guy to my right kept getting annoyed by the sounds outside. I said me and some other guy had the same issue in another theater and this guy said the park shouldn’t have been built so close.
Knowing I was half-dreaming, I pictured a raptor from the movie slamming its head through the window and I tried to think what I’d do if that happened. Instead of that happening, I heard a shrill woman’s voice saying, “A corpse!” I looked over and the lady knocked into and tripped over a nurse pushing a cart. A stainless steel tray went flying. She got back up and went to the window and pointed screaming, “A corpse!!!”
People ran, but I can’t remember much until I went back to the rooms (that were now like my parents’ house (before the 2004 renovation). The light switch in the first bedroom didn’t work and I assumed it was a power outage. I tried the light in the second bedroom and it didn’t work and I didn’t understand why because the equipment at the far side of the room had lights on it (dream green, again).
I went looking for a flashlight and found a weird red pill-shaped one on the ground, but something in my hand prevented me from picking it up. I realized it was a telescoping magnet. In my dream, it had a flashlight on the end.
That’s when I noticed the house seemed empty. The old dining room appeared as it did during the renovation. I said, “Hello?”
I heard a loud AIM sound and went to the old living room. In the old brown chair we used to have, a guy pushed a laptop off of his lap and asked me, “Where have you been?
After that, I had multiple false awakenings where I looked at my cell phone clock out of habit (I keep track of my sleep cycle length) and I checked it at least five times between 3:30 and 3:34 a.m. I’m not sure which ones were real. Of course, the last one was because I wrote down notes about my dream.
For the rest of the night, I kept having similar false awakenings and lucid dreams and some had some dream about color coded cards related to the false awakenings. I kept waking up with a racing heart.
Note: This is unfinished. I’ll update it if I ever get around to remembering it.
I remember parking in a parking lot surrounded by a sidewalk and some gravel. I think it was in front of a museum of some sort.
There was a track at the entrance where a train tour would take people around the place. There was a warning sound every time the trains moved.
Later, a group planned to put on a play that all took place on a train and we tried to figure out how to get the background to appear moving. I suggested having a scene on fabric looped around two rollers so the background would continue to appear to move behind the windows of the open train car set. I came back later and they not only had that, but two other layers that had homes and people and they moved at different speeds to create a more realistic effect.
I remember being in my parents’ house (pre-2004 renovation) and my current upstairs neighbor walked by. I said, “Hello.” He stopped and turned toward me and sat next to me as if I asked him to. I said, “You didn’t need to stop. I just said, ‘Hello.’” He later told me he was moving to New York. I told him I’d visit, but wouldn’t stay – too many people. Then, a girl came over and gave me these weird sunglasses in the shape of a red salamander.
Note: I associate salamanders with fire.
I remember dreaming a lot, but I was awakened abruptly and forgot most of the night.
I remember the last dream involved Charlie* trying to give me a message and he called it an experiment. This happened on a beach. Somewhere in this, there was something to do with the “thickness” of a dream. If that made any sense.
I woke up to a bang (maybe?) around 6:31 a.m. and the sound of trees cracking/splitting. It was in threes, so I assumed it was a hypnogogic hallucination and rolled over. The noise repeated – again in three. I waited and questioned if I were dreaming and I was sure I wasn’t. The noise repeated near my closed bedroom door. I did what I tend to do when I think someone is breaking in – I said, “Hello??” and thought, what would an intruder have that would make that noise and so loudly. I turned on the light to see if there were cracks in my ceiling and there were no new ones. Plus, I would think the house falling apart would sound different due to screws, drywall, and insulation, etc. The noise played once more, near the vent that goes up to my neighbor’s apartment. I can’t hear them very well even when they are loud, so this sound had to be CRAZY loud in their apartment. I didn’t hear it after that. I thought it could be swarms of bugs in the vent and tested it. I don’t think that was it because it would have been a hollower sound. I couldn’t pinpoint any tree nearby that would have made the sound and there was no “thud” impact like I was expecting. Videos of trees also showed gun shot like popping noises. Outside of what woke me originally, I didn’t hear that.
I only posted about the tree breaking noise because I have no way of proving it wasn’t a hallucination. My hypnogogic hallucinations have been detailed and accurate before, so I don’t know what to think.
* Name was changed
I dreamed that I was going to an apartment building I planned to move to in the dream. It was a large house with small apartments on one side and a common area on the other.
I remember having to walk through a gooey water-based substance to enter the front yard. I put my hand through it and it reminded me of the consistency of runny egg yolk. I closed my eyes and went through it.
It took me a while to decide to walk through it – I didn’t realize the tenants of the building were waiting in line behind me and I felt bad making them wait.
I remember looking around the building and didn’t like the number of stairs I had to go up and down. There were stairs in the common area (which had maroon carpet) and steps outside from the porch to the yard. I remember disliking how one of the tenants smoked in the common area. I also remember a dachshund outside.
I have been having sleep attacks all week, this one, I remember a little bit of my dreams because I made it to my bed:
The rest of the time was in and out of sleep paralysis that I recognized but wasn’t afraid of. I hallucinated/dreamed my printer printing a document during this state and questioned, while still asleep, if my printer was even turned on. I even dreamed yelling, “Hello?” thinking someone had broken into my apartment to use the printer. I was going to tell them to help themselves to whatever food I had (my weird way of responding to break-ins, thinking B&E criminals aren’t usually out to hurt people, just take things).
It was really vivid, but I have lost most of it during the day…
