I remember being in a “dream game” environment and there were blue lockers everywhere, even on central pillars. I had a heavy black backpack somehow hung on my locker. A female character told me to run because something bad was coming. I wanted to see what this bad thing was and defeat it. I knew I didn’t have time to grab my stuff, so I just hid behind a pillar and watched a moving, changing space/object enter the room. It was crawling on the floor and I didn’t know how to defeat it or if it could hear my heartbeat or smell me. I tried to stealth it by staying on the opposite side of the pillar as it moved around. I don’t remember if I had a weapon, but the scary thing turned into a VERY large, but adorable bulldog. I thought it was clever because it’s cute AND can kill you and I’d feel bad about even attempting to hurt a dog. It was sniffing out my location, though.
This “game” ran a few times and I remember remaking it to have either a wooden or metal bat randomly appear in any of the lockers.
I was telling someone about my 3D interface idea for my final project and they said something similar had been done with a wall mounted shelf and the user would take objects and put them in the shelf to run a specific program. I was like, “I stealing this idea!”
Later, I woke up and realized that was from my own mind. I went back to sleep trying to think how I could use it in waking life. I thought of something in Dream 4.
I remember being in a mall similar to the one on E. State Street. The floor had square brown tiles and the storefronts were openings to “dream games” or environments. I would love to use this in waking life as ways people could go from a landing page to other programs. Second Life used signs and boxes as portals, this dream had a seamless entry into the environments.
I kinda wanted to go to the Cincinnati Zoo for some reason, but the opening went down a half-mile path under a highway just to get to the zoo. I was thirsty and needed water and thought it was a lot of needless walking, especially without water. I do remember a food truck that was selling flavored ice off to the left of the tunnel entrance that reminded me of the one that was outside the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum back in July.
I took the tunnel and ended up in what looked like a Goodwill store. I was confused because I was trying to get to the zoo. I looked around and there was a kiosk of small novelty pamphlets. One had an image of my dad. I laughed and picked it up and looked through it thinking my dad did some random side project. I looked back and the image changed to someone similar looking, but not my dad. That should have been a sign I was dreaming since I even had a conversation around 3 weeks ago in waking life where Owen told me to look at text or a clock or image, look away, then look back and if it changed, I was probably dreaming. But, of course, I just chalked it up to being wrong in the first place.
I somehow ended up in a “social room” where they are like group chats/rooms in that old Palace program from the late 1990s/early 2000s. The people there were hippies all gathering to write songs about the sun or something and their room reminded me of the 60s/70s – way too much corduroy and saffron-colored things. My Intro to VR teacher was part of the group and was the only one who recognized me.
I randomly yelled out, “BOOKSTORE!!!!!” at him and the others. I had just come up with the idea I’d use the wall-mounted shelving idea where people could place books in the shelf and use augmented reality to access the book trailer, more information, etc. and featured books could be in the shelves on a wall.
I tried to turn on my heat last night and ended up turning it off by accident. I was too stubborn to get up and fix it until 4:30 a.m. I fixed it and fell asleep for another 2 hours. My Fitbit says that I slept over 4 hours with more deep sleep than normal, but I feel like I only slept maybe an hour.
The dream I had before getting up to fix the heat was abstract and was about adding hidden data to vectors (the different directions the object can move) of an object in Unity. (I was experimenting with using 360 videos in a sphere in Unity before going to bed.) There was a way to add written info, but a number code was thought to work best.
After I went back to bed, I had dreams of my classmates adding data to Unity projects and each time, the data was hidden better and I was having fun trying to find a number.
I remember playing a VR game. The setting was in a “town” and I found my way stealthy into an “office” or whatever that was a one-room shed designed to look like a place to store stuff to explore a nearby lake or forest.
The story was told through interaction with items and areas of the room. The areas were marked by a floating white ball (like in Beyond: Two Souls) and I remember having to hold a button (or make a hand gesture) and a circle would form around the white ball before triggering the item/area.
One part had a task where I had to find a label or word on the bottom of an item. I remember picking up the items and turning my hand/controller to look underneath them, but messed up the position of the items and made too much noise. An enemy person was about to enter the office, so I tried to hide. I finally found a location behind the door that worked, but I thought about looking up playthroughs on YouTube to see the other options.
Yesterday, I played and accomplished a lot in Watchdogs, played a little of Game of Thrones (I’m looking at the decision trees), and watched some Last of Us playthrough videos.
I remember my friend Jenn having a trip and a room booked on a cruise (small boat, like a commuter version), but she couldn’t go. She offered the ticket to me as long as I delivered her stuff.
In a later dream, it happened again, but she didn’t have a room. I was frustrated because I had no place to store her stuff safely for the three-hour trip. I found a common sink and wrapped up her things – including these beautiful dark blue glass glasses – hoping they didn’t look like things to steal and put them underneath. I charged my phone and found an old flip phone, but didn’t have the right charger for it. A stranger had one and offered it.
I remember visiting my parents and parking right outside of their open garage, but had my lights off. I honked. I remember turning my lights on and saw I almost hit some tall red display cart.
I put my car in reverse to back up, but couldn’t park my car (a button). I woke up getting frustrated that it’s like when I can’t dial 9-1-1 in dreams. Buttons don’t seem to work.
I remember a dream game that had characters (not animated) in a team that reminded me a little of Team Fortress 2. I heard Overwatch is similar, but I haven’t played that, yet. For some reason, the females, like myself, chose normal-sized and normal-looking humans. One girl was way more promiscuous than the rest of us and I actually complimented her on her confidence, despite her constant want for all the women to show more skin.
I remember we were all trying to go over plans and introduce each other in a small dorm room. I found a gold-plated badge with a player’s ID number and knew the two letters were the initials of the player. I asked if anyone’s real name had the initials, “G as in Gregory and H as in……Hotel?”
There was a part where each person got some kind of ring that gave them powers. A tall lanky character said, “The rings have puzzlers, I tell you!” and another character commented how it made them feel “royal.” The big, muscular character explained, “In all my years of casting rings, I have never seen rings form to each finger automatically. They appear to be magic.”
I remember the winners on my runs were always the survivors – not the best players or leaders, but we won by default. The teams I was on (and often led) tended to be raunchy, chaotic, and immature. My leading style in the game was so laisez-faire that I remember pairing up with a guy who would make inappropriate jokes, but never really reprimanded him – I would just tell people to ignore him.
I saw a glimpse of Charlie’s* “world” (as I called it). He had a better team and was a better leader. The pair was of two professional women and the whole team would survive and the “winners” were based on points and leadership.
There was a scene where I was in a uniform/light-weight armor of some sort and running through a grassy environment near Charlie and we had our IDs in text above our heads. I tried to remember his, knowing it was a dream game, hoping I’d remember when I was awake.
It was 108CS4042…. something (it might have been 109 and the number and initials have been changed to protect the identity this Charlie is based on). The numbers following the initials I don’t think were relevant data, but I remembered them because they were near Charlie’s football jersey number, 41. I’m not sure what the first three numbers stood for, if anything.
I remember talking to someone dressed like the main character on Watchdogs and I remember considering the guy a trustworthy acquaintance, despite having people – as well as the federal government – after him.
We were on a city street at twilight just outside a building with a digital billboard and a camera to the right. I thought he was gutsy for standing outside a camera like that, but it wasn’t his face that was being tracked. He hacked things with his phone – with apps that would be cumbersome to load on burner phones – so the SID was tracked instead. He had an app that would warn him when his SID triggered an alarm, so he would have to go into airplane mode and leave the area.
I thought about asking him about that app the next time.
When I woke up, I thought that would be an interesting way to track people who can’t do their activities on burner phones. Facial recognition can be fooled, SIDs probably can as well, but limiting the ability to use a communication device would be a smart way for law enforcement to deter some crimes.
I remember “investigating” Charlie* – trying to get usernames or something – and found a profile with his info on a Russian website. I only knew it was Russian from the .ru at the end of the address.
I was looking into this at “work” (in my dream, it was at what I called my “old” job). Charlie worked there as well in another department. Someone in his department was testing some expandable turret, but it didn’t have enough room in the hall. The room I was in had an angled, but higher ceiling, so I invited them in to test it there.
During the test, the one guy wanted me to look up something on my computer and went over to look at the results before I even got that far. I started getting nervous because I had all this info about Charlie on the screen. I tried to switch screens, go back, SOMETHING…but…buttons don’t work in dreams.
* Name has been changed
There was a character with long ears – maybe a rabbit? It had to go through 2D side-scrolling “puzzle” levels similar to things I’ve seen in Super Mario Maker, but all on one screen like old arcade games. The character could jump, grab, push, and duck like Mario to get through the obstacles. On top of that, the character was a bounty hunter trying to take in another character alive, a character that constantly tried to run away and add obstacles. On top of that, on another level, he had to save a girl character who starts out afraid and unmoving to eventually being an equal partner with the main character getting out of the levels.
After waking up, I thought I’d also have the character drop off the bounty and the couple finds a stray dog character that is attracted to high-pitch noises and afraid of low-pitch noises and later find out that the main character can whistle to train the dog to help get them out of levels.
I was explaining to someone how we’d have to worry less about the Valley of the Uncanny in Dream Tech because we can program it so the person’s mind creates the character (covering up any small things that create the repulsion) and/or program it so the person doesn’t care about the weirdness of the AI characters.
I remember a scene in a shop of some sort and I was geeking out over a 35mm film camera that had raised numbers on dials that went together like gears so you could set them to the proper exposure, and when you wanted to change the aperture or shutter speed it updated the other aspect to ensure the same exposure.
I saw in a reflection that I had a bruise on my left cheek. When I looked closer, I saw the numbers from the camera in my cheek. I assumed I was hit in the face with the camera, but I didn’t remember it.
I remember a scene in a hospital and the floors were just waxed. I remember seeing the prints of crutches and tennis shoes.
Later, I used a phone where 1 was for the speaker and 2 went to another desk. I talked to a guy there and asked about some woman named Nancy. He gave me details about how she was, but nothing too detailed. He got suspicious and I told him I was from IT security doing a random test to see if departments were giving out too much information and that they passed the test with flying colors.
I remember being in a college newsroom and hearing that a new Miami Vice was going to be made. I said I’d do something easy like getting college student and staff’s opinion, you know, “Man on the Street” kind of thing.
I was going to go around some offices in an area nearby that was partly under construction. I found a nice empty office with large floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked an area where a new building was being built. There was a vanity license plate on the ground that said, “Miami Vice.”
I looked at the office and wondered if I could move into it. In waking life, my office doesn’t have windows. I watched as construction workers in yellow hard hats and plaid shirts and safety vests work on the foundation for the new building. It was flooded from recent rains and muddy.
The worker on the left who was sitting to get to the place he was working on passed out and started snoring instantly. I assumed he had narcolepsy. Even though he was near the water, he was in a safe position. His coworker woke him up and the guy said he was just exhausted. He then passed out again and a tool he was holding fell in the water. He woke up and reached into the water to get his tool and passed out in the water. His coworker looked down and didn’t know anything was wrong until bubbles came up. He grabbed his clothing and arm to turn his face out of the water, but the coworker passed out as well. I ran from the room telling people to get help for the guys outside and that there might be a gas leak. I remember telling an official about why I was there and what I saw.
I remember experiencing/watching some movie based on a YA novel where there were kids with superpowers. Some became a violent group using their powers to scare people and wreck places. One of the “good” main characters named Miguel tried to avoid them in one scene by pretending to be asleep in his van until the gang left.
One of the gangs had a glass pyramid object that glowed blue and was attracted like a magnet to other “finders” (super power kids). The scene was interesting because after messing up a random car, they found the pyramid was glowing and the person with telekinesis had it float toward where it was being pulled. It pulled over to Miguel’s van where there were several other glowing pyramids. They looked in the van, but he wasn’t there. The strong guy pulled off the side of the van, but he wasn’t there either. He was hiding in the car behind the van, but I woke up before the next scene.
I had several false awakenings as well.
