From a speech-to-text note recorded when half asleep:
You know, a helicopter or plane. Definitely, some kind of military training and I remember even having headphones on to communicate. We had or I had a clipboard that had a [clear plastic] cover on it to protect it from the weather.
or if you still remember what was used (???)
And a guy that looks like [my coworker] was explaining that we would tell the two trainees with parachutes three to five [sentences] and before they jumped from the plane, that if they felt they were going to not make it, they could say their last wishes. If that included leaving everything to their dog, that would be okay, we would honor those wishes.
I really wanted to jump and was mad they only gave parachutes to the trainees. One of the trainees was mad that the other really would have given everything to her dog. The other, earlier in the day, out on some field, said she gave “zero fucks” about this other person.
I remember sitting in a helicopter, strapped in with a strap on each shoulder. I’ve never flown in a helicopter, so I don’t know how realistic it was. One weird thing was that I was sitting above the pilot and other passenger and I could only see through a window that was below where I was sitting. I was disappointed because I love heights and wanted to watch as we were flying.
We landed near a place with yellow tape. When I got out, I saw we were in a really pretty city with skyscrapers. The other passenger was some “official” person (I called her a handler in my dream) who was around my age. She was dressed in a nice business outfit and I remember knowing she was a nice person. The helicopter pilot was a good-looking guy around my age and was in a military uniform.
The helicopter guy left and I went to one of the buildings to use the restroom. The toilet wouldn’t flush and the stall wasn’t lit well. I left to have someone else fix it.
The woman checked me into a fancy hotel suite. It looked at least 3 stars, but most likely 4 stars. I don’t remember looking outside, so I think the curtains were drawn. The colors were a nice burgundy and cream color. I kept thinking the room was too large for one person – it seemed larger than one of my past apartments!
I was bored, so I walked around and realized I had been there before! There was a small meeting room across from the bathroom. I went in there and found the materials from the event I remember attending. It was a small training class to go over some management thing. I found a “workbook” with a faded/pastel orange cover with stock photos of people working together. It appeared to have been partly damaged by water and then shoved in a bag or box for months. I found a bag that belonged to a coworker and looked through it. I found two pairs of nice motorcycle gloves and remembered our training session was in the winter and he said he would always forget his gloves there and bring new ones and end up with several pairs. There was also a bag inside that I now I think was a rifle of some sort. The main bag was thin and padded and could unzip almost completely.
Later, I checked what was behind the door to the hotel suite, expecting a hallway. Instead, it led out to the lobby. I closed the door and noticed a taped sign that said “Wet Paint” (or repaint?). I turned to go back to the bed and heard what sounded like a cart being pushed along a wooden floor. I woke up thinking someone was in my apartment.
“Too much sleep + mosquito bites + sound of a fly + watching Homeland before bed = crazy dreams about working for the government, attending a conference I wanted to volunteer at, talking to some guy in a military uniform about ice cream, went around looking for hidden notes from a local group of scavenger hunters, all to find out that I was beta testing a dream game with some other players.”

What I remember days after the fact:
I remember being hired to work for a government-run department with high security and was trained for the job. Other positions and departments were understaffed and I took over a spot/shift for someone and their area was farther underground. I caught something and saved the department money and embarrassment and a group of higher ups followed me around to see how I did so. I told them I was just filling in and wasn’t even trained for the job I was subbing in. All but my direct supervisor (which I called my “direct report” in my dream) left. She sat and watched me look at monitors. I thought she’d be so bored because that job wasn’t that entertaining or exciting.
I remember parts where I was eating at an event and thought about volunteering the next year despite volunteers being younger and students (lower-rung type) instead of where my status was. I wanted to explore an area, but triggered a part of the “dream game” and it took me to the next scene. I watched as other players explore the areas I wanted to explore.
Later, I was in a car with other players as the main player had an interaction with an NPC in a house. I told the other players how far I thought we were in the game based on my first playthrough.
Random parts I can still remember:
There was a part where I was part of some graduating class of Marines (I think). We had neat white Marine uniforms and everyone had a hat, but me. I went to go get one and the hats were weird and had to be folded over and before I folded mine, everyone was yelled at for even having hats. They took them off and put them on a table near where we were sitting. I put mine down unfolded so others could tell I wasn’t part of the group originally with hats.
There was a part where I was working in a technology position in what looked like a large high school gym or event space with only windows near the ceiling. There were large TV screens on the wall and our workspaces were open cubicles in circles – 5 to a circle, I think. The computer screens were flatscreens and the computers were PCs. We had a cartoon of some sort (maybe a collective game?) on the TV screen to run in the background as we worked. I thought it was funny how as adults, we worked well with cartoons playing at work.
There was a part where I had a boss and he dressed as Hitler for some reason. I returned some kind of form, turned back to my coworkers and said, “What am I to do when my boss is literally Hitler?”
I can’t remember most of it now, but I had a long lucid dream last night. I only knew it was a dream because of “inconsistencies” like a desk existing in my office where my bookshelf is and running in my home shoes on ice without slipping.
I remember a short scene where I was walking upstairs in a townhouse apartment thinking in a slightly depressed manner that the bedroom I was going to was going to be my bedroom for the next few years and how weird it will be because I’ll never be in the bedroom (barracks actually, I think) that I had been in for almost a decade. It was a dual feeling of not liking change and being OK with it. I was not the owner of the apartment. It felt as if I were moving back in with parents. I remember a box of belongings on the couch.
I woke up disoriented and thought how weird it was that, for that moment, I was someone completely different with a different back story and anxieties and outlook on life. Dreams like those don’t happen often, but geez, it’s so weird when they do.
