From a speech-to-text note recorded when half asleep:
A place like the Ridges at night. Driving around weird corners and up strange hills. People running in scrubs.
I went up to ask them why they were running and they said they had death threats and something to do with the machines they operate like a CAT scans or an X-ray machines. I asked them if they called the cops and they said no, so I went to go call the cops.
I pictured the bad guy having powers like being able to fire electricity from his hands and my character was a “spiegel” or “mirror,” so I was planning to fire back, but I thought I need to block first. So how do I block? I don’t know how to block, but I was willing to try.
In a classroom, the big TV playing some game. A young woman walked up to the TV, which was needed for the game. I high-fived her and the older guy that also went up to the screen. There was a dog – a big dog – maybe a Rottweiler. I slept on the floor below.
I remember working at some studio and I was alone and closing for the first time. I thought I’d do fine, but it was a bit creepy being in a big place alone at night. As if programmed, lights started fading out one by one and I worried about tipping on equipment trying to get through the place.
I remember walking out to a car in a lot next to a bridge of some sort. The car was a fancy two-door red car. It was the kind I wouldn’t buy, but know a lot of guys that would love that kind. It might have been a convertible based on how the windows were.
I got in on the driver’s side, but in the back, but still had driver controls. I rushed to get in because two “agents” or Men in Black -like figures with ugly sunglasses and fedoras were watching me. The taller one on my right approached my car. I looked down and away pretending I wasn’t paying attention, but he did that “cop thing” and knocked on the passenger side window to get my attention.
I rolled the window down (with Prius window controls on my left) and he reached in, opened the door, and plopped down on the seat. He leaned back and asked, “What the hell are you doing?” (or something like that). I didn’t feel fear – I actually saw him as a nice person, just with authority. I woke up before responding.
I vaguely remember a conference trip with Tim*. There was a weird scene about running out of time or bad timing or something and it gave me an idea for a story.
We got back to this swanky conference hotel a bit late and the hotel staff were weirded out by our presence and almost didn’t allow us up to our room. I remember getting on the elevator near this open indoor balcony area with the stairs. We got off on floor 3 (I think) and I think the elevator went up to at least floor 5 or 6. I remember wanting a photo from the top of the stairs and wanted to take the elevator higher the next day to get an even better shot.
I remember some of the layout of the building and seeing security devices and cameras in the hallways and conference rooms near the elevator. We got to our room which was a neat shared room with king beds – one on one side and one on the other with the heads of the beds against a center wall so there was some privacy. A shared kitchen and bathroom were near the door between them.
I remember wanting my story to be private, but we were sharing an iPod with an Otterbox case on it.

So I got some decent sleep and, of course, the last of the 7-8 hour session provides the most interesting narrative dreams I can remember.
It was longer than this, but the top things I remember and was trying to recall as I came out of sleep:
I remember being in a tall building at night and being part of some “team” or department at work. We were confused about something.
I remember walking toward the offices from the nice, large lobby and had to walk through a hallway with walls painted with this nice shade of bluish gray. Before I entered the hallway, I saw ambulances (I’m not sure how they’d fit) coming down the hallway, so I moved to the side and noticed trees across the hall from me. It was like one dream involving a street merged into this office building. The ambulances passed me, but they stopped to push through two large black bins that were blocking the path.
Later, some people were returning and I thought it was the ambulances returning, so I moved into this cut-out area (that I kept calling a “cubby”) that had a full wall between the hallway and the area with vending machines. Instead, it was two people, who I watched run pass without seeing me. The first was a thin girl with really short hair with shaved sides. The other was a guy (about 5′10) with light brown hair and a little extra weight, but still healthy. HE impressed me because he passed after the girl and I thought, “This is a great place to hide when people are too focused to look in this area.” He returned because he saw me as he ran past. I’m attracted to people who pay attention to things most would ignore for some reason.
He ran in and looked at me and talked to me in ways that made it seem like he’s known me and has been in a close relationship with me for a while. He probably would have hugged or kissed me if he didn’t pick up on me not recognizing him. He had a light gray backpack with orange(?) outline cording. He put it down saying that he “got ‘it’” and I don’t remember the exact dialog, but it sounded like he expected it to destroy a large area. He opened the backpack and it was a piece of “computer beige/gray” equipment that I didn’t recognize and the screen ran a series of equations. I thought it was a bomb. I thought if it was a bomb that could do that much damage, it would have to have a way to produce a lot of energy despite being small enough to be in a backpack, so I thought it had to include materials that were highly radioactive. I tried getting more information about it as a bent down and moved my hand over the device to feel for heat.

There was a scene where I looked out a window into the window of the skyscraper building across the street. It was night, it was easy to see inside. I remember a couple of desks around a raised area were the higher ups sat. One of the higher up saw me and whispered something to a couple of other people. I don’t think it was related to me, but I think they were annoyed I was watching.

There was a scene where I heard an alarm similar to this alarm: https://youtu.be/XSe8BsOmpJ8 But it was a higher pitch and short and it would begin, then stop, then begin again a couple of seconds later, then stop. We were all confused and I didn’t know if I should leave the building or go toward the alarm. I went toward the alarm.

Later, I remember there was a backstory where I had a crush on a coworker (my type from waking like) and I felt we were getting closer when this all went down. The taller guy with the backpack was with him and our boss showing him the device. The numbers on the screen were for a 6-sided pyramid device and I thought the math people watching this scene (I saw it as a TV show almost) would have recognized the numbers.
It dawned on me why the guy thought he knew me so well and why everyone couldn’t place him. It’s as if people found him familiar, but didn’t know him. I thought it was partly due to the recognition in his face that we all assumed we knew him, but forgot from where. I told him the reason was because he was from another timeline, another “universe.” People were arguing over how time travel of a person or any mass/energy would have to displace a similar mass/energy. What he had wasn’t a bomb, it created enough energy to send someone into another timeline. His counterpart from our timeline must have traveled and he was “sucked through” an “energy vacuum” to replace the energy in the multiverse.
It sounds weird, but when I woke up, I thought this would be good in a story to explain mysteriously missing people and people who have reported waking to find their lives completely different than what they remember. It also reminds me of the end of a Beyond Science episode about the Bermuda Triangle and his speculation that we see missing planes maybe being replaced by fish or birds, what if another universe is seeing battleships fall from the sky?
I remember being in a rectangular bedroom with glass walls. The structure was built on a moon-like terrain. Two aliens with skull faces and comically huge heads were walking out of a crashed craft. I remember thinking it would be bad if I looked at them, so I tried to look away and pretend I didn’t know they were there. I wanted to close the curtain, but I thought that would give away that I knew they were there. I also hated that it was night, making my cell like a fishbowl.
This effort to avoid looking too long at a character was in a few other dreams as well.
I remember parts of a dream where I was working in a garage with “18 percent grey” people. It’s what I call people who are OK with committing a crime, but they need a reason to. They are nice, as long as you don’t screw them over.
I remember jogging away from the garage and around a partially fenced building. It was mostly because I enjoyed jogging. A car drove by and then backed up and it was one of the grey guys. I think they were partly worried I had planned to tell people their criminal plans. I didn’t see the point in doing so. They apparently wanted to trust me, but they weren’t sure if they could. I told the guy I was jogging because it’s fun and they asked if I had planned to jog all the way to the next town (20 miles away). I realized that probably wouldn’t be practical.
