I remember being in a “dream game” environment and there were blue lockers everywhere, even on central pillars. I had a heavy black backpack somehow hung on my locker. A female character told me to run because something bad was coming. I wanted to see what this bad thing was and defeat it. I knew I didn’t have time to grab my stuff, so I just hid behind a pillar and watched a moving, changing space/object enter the room. It was crawling on the floor and I didn’t know how to defeat it or if it could hear my heartbeat or smell me. I tried to stealth it by staying on the opposite side of the pillar as it moved around. I don’t remember if I had a weapon, but the scary thing turned into a VERY large, but adorable bulldog. I thought it was clever because it’s cute AND can kill you and I’d feel bad about even attempting to hurt a dog. It was sniffing out my location, though.
This “game” ran a few times and I remember remaking it to have either a wooden or metal bat randomly appear in any of the lockers.
I was telling someone about my 3D interface idea for my final project and they said something similar had been done with a wall mounted shelf and the user would take objects and put them in the shelf to run a specific program. I was like, “I stealing this idea!”
Later, I woke up and realized that was from my own mind. I went back to sleep trying to think how I could use it in waking life. I thought of something in Dream 4.
I remember being in a mall similar to the one on E. State Street. The floor had square brown tiles and the storefronts were openings to “dream games” or environments. I would love to use this in waking life as ways people could go from a landing page to other programs. Second Life used signs and boxes as portals, this dream had a seamless entry into the environments.
I kinda wanted to go to the Cincinnati Zoo for some reason, but the opening went down a half-mile path under a highway just to get to the zoo. I was thirsty and needed water and thought it was a lot of needless walking, especially without water. I do remember a food truck that was selling flavored ice off to the left of the tunnel entrance that reminded me of the one that was outside the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum back in July.
I took the tunnel and ended up in what looked like a Goodwill store. I was confused because I was trying to get to the zoo. I looked around and there was a kiosk of small novelty pamphlets. One had an image of my dad. I laughed and picked it up and looked through it thinking my dad did some random side project. I looked back and the image changed to someone similar looking, but not my dad. That should have been a sign I was dreaming since I even had a conversation around 3 weeks ago in waking life where Owen told me to look at text or a clock or image, look away, then look back and if it changed, I was probably dreaming. But, of course, I just chalked it up to being wrong in the first place.
I somehow ended up in a “social room” where they are like group chats/rooms in that old Palace program from the late 1990s/early 2000s. The people there were hippies all gathering to write songs about the sun or something and their room reminded me of the 60s/70s – way too much corduroy and saffron-colored things. My Intro to VR teacher was part of the group and was the only one who recognized me.
I randomly yelled out, “BOOKSTORE!!!!!” at him and the others. I had just come up with the idea I’d use the wall-mounted shelving idea where people could place books in the shelf and use augmented reality to access the book trailer, more information, etc. and featured books could be in the shelves on a wall.
I remember sitting in a helicopter, strapped in with a strap on each shoulder. I’ve never flown in a helicopter, so I don’t know how realistic it was. One weird thing was that I was sitting above the pilot and other passenger and I could only see through a window that was below where I was sitting. I was disappointed because I love heights and wanted to watch as we were flying.
We landed near a place with yellow tape. When I got out, I saw we were in a really pretty city with skyscrapers. The other passenger was some “official” person (I called her a handler in my dream) who was around my age. She was dressed in a nice business outfit and I remember knowing she was a nice person. The helicopter pilot was a good-looking guy around my age and was in a military uniform.
The helicopter guy left and I went to one of the buildings to use the restroom. The toilet wouldn’t flush and the stall wasn’t lit well. I left to have someone else fix it.
The woman checked me into a fancy hotel suite. It looked at least 3 stars, but most likely 4 stars. I don’t remember looking outside, so I think the curtains were drawn. The colors were a nice burgundy and cream color. I kept thinking the room was too large for one person – it seemed larger than one of my past apartments!
I was bored, so I walked around and realized I had been there before! There was a small meeting room across from the bathroom. I went in there and found the materials from the event I remember attending. It was a small training class to go over some management thing. I found a “workbook” with a faded/pastel orange cover with stock photos of people working together. It appeared to have been partly damaged by water and then shoved in a bag or box for months. I found a bag that belonged to a coworker and looked through it. I found two pairs of nice motorcycle gloves and remembered our training session was in the winter and he said he would always forget his gloves there and bring new ones and end up with several pairs. There was also a bag inside that I now I think was a rifle of some sort. The main bag was thin and padded and could unzip almost completely.
Later, I checked what was behind the door to the hotel suite, expecting a hallway. Instead, it led out to the lobby. I closed the door and noticed a taped sign that said “Wet Paint” (or repaint?). I turned to go back to the bed and heard what sounded like a cart being pushed along a wooden floor. I woke up thinking someone was in my apartment.
What I still remember from last night’s dreams:
I remember following an English teacher and some other guy across a park or garden area. We were up high on top of the arches and other architectural features. They just jumped down. I was too afraid of landing too hard, so I planned to climb down a metal feature. However, the metal pillar I got onto bent down to the ground due to my weight.
There was a character with long ears – maybe a rabbit? It had to go through 2D side-scrolling “puzzle” levels similar to things I’ve seen in Super Mario Maker, but all on one screen like old arcade games. The character could jump, grab, push, and duck like Mario to get through the obstacles. On top of that, the character was a bounty hunter trying to take in another character alive, a character that constantly tried to run away and add obstacles. On top of that, on another level, he had to save a girl character who starts out afraid and unmoving to eventually being an equal partner with the main character getting out of the levels.
After waking up, I thought I’d also have the character drop off the bounty and the couple finds a stray dog character that is attracted to high-pitch noises and afraid of low-pitch noises and later find out that the main character can whistle to train the dog to help get them out of levels.
I was explaining to someone how we’d have to worry less about the Valley of the Uncanny in Dream Tech because we can program it so the person’s mind creates the character (covering up any small things that create the repulsion) and/or program it so the person doesn’t care about the weirdness of the AI characters.
I remember a scene in a shop of some sort and I was geeking out over a 35mm film camera that had raised numbers on dials that went together like gears so you could set them to the proper exposure, and when you wanted to change the aperture or shutter speed it updated the other aspect to ensure the same exposure.
I saw in a reflection that I had a bruise on my left cheek. When I looked closer, I saw the numbers from the camera in my cheek. I assumed I was hit in the face with the camera, but I didn’t remember it.
I remember a scene in a hospital and the floors were just waxed. I remember seeing the prints of crutches and tennis shoes.
Later, I used a phone where 1 was for the speaker and 2 went to another desk. I talked to a guy there and asked about some woman named Nancy. He gave me details about how she was, but nothing too detailed. He got suspicious and I told him I was from IT security doing a random test to see if departments were giving out too much information and that they passed the test with flying colors.
I remember being in a college newsroom and hearing that a new Miami Vice was going to be made. I said I’d do something easy like getting college student and staff’s opinion, you know, “Man on the Street” kind of thing.
I was going to go around some offices in an area nearby that was partly under construction. I found a nice empty office with large floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked an area where a new building was being built. There was a vanity license plate on the ground that said, “Miami Vice.”
I looked at the office and wondered if I could move into it. In waking life, my office doesn’t have windows. I watched as construction workers in yellow hard hats and plaid shirts and safety vests work on the foundation for the new building. It was flooded from recent rains and muddy.
The worker on the left who was sitting to get to the place he was working on passed out and started snoring instantly. I assumed he had narcolepsy. Even though he was near the water, he was in a safe position. His coworker woke him up and the guy said he was just exhausted. He then passed out again and a tool he was holding fell in the water. He woke up and reached into the water to get his tool and passed out in the water. His coworker looked down and didn’t know anything was wrong until bubbles came up. He grabbed his clothing and arm to turn his face out of the water, but the coworker passed out as well. I ran from the room telling people to get help for the guys outside and that there might be a gas leak. I remember telling an official about why I was there and what I saw.
I remember experiencing/watching some movie based on a YA novel where there were kids with superpowers. Some became a violent group using their powers to scare people and wreck places. One of the “good” main characters named Miguel tried to avoid them in one scene by pretending to be asleep in his van until the gang left.
One of the gangs had a glass pyramid object that glowed blue and was attracted like a magnet to other “finders” (super power kids). The scene was interesting because after messing up a random car, they found the pyramid was glowing and the person with telekinesis had it float toward where it was being pulled. It pulled over to Miguel’s van where there were several other glowing pyramids. They looked in the van, but he wasn’t there. The strong guy pulled off the side of the van, but he wasn’t there either. He was hiding in the car behind the van, but I woke up before the next scene.
I had several false awakenings as well.
I remember being in a competitive training program of some sort and there was a character that looked like the guy who plays Agent Asher on Quantico. He was really intelligent, but an asshole. I tried to get past the asshole part, thinking it was insecurity about passing training.
He got desperate in the end and tried to sabotage me and the others by turning off the power. I remember trying to turn on lights in a place that looked like my current apartment, but they wouldn’t turn on. I didn’t want to go to the dark part of the back room to reset the circuit breakers, but knew I had to.
Like in other dreams with darkness, I found a red flashlight the moment I looked for one. However, it wasn’t very bright. It was enough to see that the character had somehow locked the back closet with a padlock.
I laughed and went back to the plastic drawers where I grabbed the flashlight. I found my lock pick tools and went back to pick the lock. It unlocked easily and I was able to access the breaker box. I turned each one off and on, not caring if the character realized I got through his lock.
He came in the room with a red solo cup with a yellow liquid that he called cough syrup. He was going to force me to overdose on it so it looked like an accident.
I spent the rest of the dream trying to convince him he wasn’t going to be cut from the program. He didn’t have to kill people to succeed. That even trying the non-violent sabotage probably made his rating increase. We needed a 7 out of 10 to pass and I kept telling him he had to have had at least an 8 or 9 and no one got 10s. I said I’d be lucky to have a 5.
I woke up to not only find that closet unlocked, but I have a bad cold and I’m coughing my head off.
