Hmm..vacation..
Through this vacation, I read “Brave New World” by A. Huxley..I was supposed to read it the summer of 2000 for Honors English 11 (British Literature)..but I only read half of it and stopped reading it..later on, I had to remember 239 lines of Shakespeare to make up the grade (the remembering was MY idea..I knew it would inpress the teacher and I would learn something from it, so it was a good deal)..I don’t know why I didn’t like the book back then..but OH MY GAWD!! I LOVE THAT BOOK!! It was written well and I think I like it now because I’m more into psychology/philosophy/religions than I was and I know more Shakespeare so I recognized the quotes..I saw Signs again last weekend, so I kinda guess I didn’t read the book for a reason..if I had read it then, I wouldn’t have understood it, even though I had just finished a year of psychology class..I didn’t know much Shakespeare, either..not reading the book MADE me get into Shakespeare more..and because it came on TV a few days after I was leaving for my aunt’s house, who didn’t have cable, I decided to tape it, read the book at her house and then watch it when I got home..reading that book while I was there was an experience..I figured out that I have been noticing for quite a while how others have been conditioned and how I’ve been conditioned differently..And just like always in my daydreams and real life, things in art and literature show up in my life at the same time (during the production of Emma, I played a matchmaker in realife with similaraties to the main character)..this happened again on the vacation..only this time I was similar to John the Savage..My mom came from the same place my aunt did, but has a different lifestyle (laid back) which I grew up in, on the vacation, I was put in a “brave new world” which was quite different, but in the end I felt better in my home surroundings..I’ll now go on and on about my vacation..
Friday night was nothing special..my aunt set up a TV in my room, which was great..
Saturday morning..I had to get up by 7:00am, so I set my clock for 6:30am and snoozed it a few times..I’m SO used to waking up at noon or 1:00pm (hello! I scheduled my classes to begin after noon for most of my school week), but I’m on an adaptive sleep schedule where I sleep when I’m tired..this way, I don’t get into a routine and fall asleep during dinner or waking up and having nothing to do for 6 hours, it makes me able to force myself awake if I need to and fall asleep if it’s the only time I can..so I finally get up around 7:00am and my aunt is getting up and ready, so I turned on the TV..Boy, oh, boy..I’ve always enjoyed living in or around Columbus, Ohio..but I’m used to watching National News on CNN or MSNBC..I never knew just how psycho we central Ohians are..but it was cool..kinda..I turned on my TV and turned to one of the 4 news channels (the other 2 channels had kiddie shows and one channel was about Christian psychologist giving people advice about God and Jesus helping people with any problem they may have) and on the news channel was this: “The West Nile Virus claims another life..should you be worried?” .. “BUT FIRST: The Ohio State Buckeys get geared up for this afternoon’s game, are they ready?” .. So they talk about the OSU Buckeys and FOOTBALL for about 5 minutes (I actually believe the West Nile Virus is more important, but whatever..) and then it’s like, “Now on to the weather, where we’ll see if that will effect the game later..” and they said that it was going to be nice and suggested veryone have a nice time at “Buckeye Central”..(there was a storm the night before, a lot of standing water was around Buckeye Central..if you get my drift)..then they talk about a young girl who accidentally fell in the Scioto River and was found 15(?) feet down the river……holding a FOOTBALL!..THEN, they talk about the West Nile Virus saying even though there have been a couble of deaths you shouldn’t be worried and should go enjoy the FOOTBALL game..yeah..ok..whatever..I turned it to a kiddie station where they had a “music video” is was a cartoon with characters that just seemed WRONG! They would give kids nightmares..the song was about bats..the main bat who had the solo looked and talked like a vampire..the two main animal characters were like “Look at the birds!” “I don’t think they’re birds, Charlie” and the bats break into this song: “We are bats/We are bats/What do ya think of that?/We’re the ooky-cooky friends you see at night/We are bats/We are bats/What do you think of that?/But you’ll never ever see us in the light..”ok..yeah..whatever..”Wasn’t that a great music video???” But I have to admit, the kids they hired to dance at the end of the show were quite good for their age..well, I forced down some gram(sp?) crackers (I’m not used to eating right when I get up) and drank a glass of apple juice (opposed to my normal can of Pepsi)..I got ready and when I was brushing my teeth I noticed that I liked my hair..I know that sounds conceited, but it’s a big accomplishment to accually like something about my phyisical appearence..it made me feel better about myself, which is something I need to do more often..my aunt and I went on our way to the bank where I had to make my first deposit..isn’t it sad that I just recently got my financial freedom at the age of 18 and up to know I was told how to spend my money (that I only had in theory any way)..later, my aunt and I went to the dentist office ‘cuz she had and appointment..I just read and played on my Gameboy..After that, we went to Hollywood Video and rented Riding in Cars With Boys (her co-worker suggested it, I wouldn’t have been so apprehensive about seeing it, if my aunt had told me earlier that the same co-worker suggested The Mothman Prophecies, also), I picked The Others and A.I.: Artificial Intelligence (two I’ve seen and loved), and she picked A Beautiful Mind (the movie that Advanced Psychology class in 2002 got to go on the field trip to see)..we went to the grocery store where I continued to do things to see people’s reactions..I love to act weird in places where no one knows me..I talked loudly about my idea about my burnt flag shirt and I saw some people look at me weird (why would she want to disrespect America that way?) and other things..I noticed others and my aunt would hold their purse or belongings more protectively when a “suspicious” (meaning black, male, baggy clothes, ghetto look) walked by..I’m way to trusting..I usually say hi to everyone regardless of appearence and never really worry about my stuff being stolen (unless they keep looking at my stuff and distracting me)..we go home and eat..we watched the game (GO BUCKS!!!) and I wasn’t accustomed to getting up at 6:30am so I ended up falling asleep..but waking up just before a great play or touchdown..well, we won OF COURSE..before we watched the game, my aunt asked me to pick the movie we were gonna watch that afternoon..I’m indecisive and leave many things to chance, so I suggested we pull choices out of a hat..I wrote down the choices on little torn pieces of paper (originally used for bookmarks in this catalog she had me look through on Friday night)..I wrote them down in this order: RICWB, The Others, AI, Beautiful Mind and put them in one of those insulator thingys that go around your can/glass to keep it warm/cold and shook them up and pulled them out..they came out in the same order..I didn’t like that, so I re shook them up and threw them out on the table..only 3 came out, so I chose the one that didn’t..it was AI..she liked that movie..well, I ate dinner and went to bed..the cushion she had on the bed was like those “egg carton” ones you see on commerials..it made me sleep so well, I couldn’t remember my dreams..
My arms are tired..I have to go to bed (dude, It’s only been a week and yet I have gotten on the “sleep at night” schedule) I will continue this post tomorrow..just think..I was there for a week, this post just covered day 1 and 2..I will write several posts and then put them in order for easier reading..
so, in other words, TO BE CONTINUED..
