Grrr..
ok, so yesterday, my parents and I go see Dreamcatcher..I read a review when I looked up the times..it said it was “chaotic” and I was like, so was the book..so when we got to the theatre, I expected a nice movie mostly based on the Novel BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOO I wasn’t that lucky..there were 15 minutes of previews THEN that Animatrix thing which is the best animation I’ve seen in a while..that was 15-20 minutes maybe then the movie starts..everyone talked so fast!! Like me almost and I thought they probably did that to fit everything in..then they CREATED their own scenes, which at the time I understood that they were trying to explain some concepts and slang that was never spoken in the book..then halfway through or less, I felt sick and wanted to bang my head on something hard because it was SOOOOOO inaccurate..like oh, my gawd! It’s because they tried to fit a 4-5 hour worth movie in less than 2 hours..they did that with the original Carrie..”Carrie” the bok would be worth 3-4 hours instead of 90 minutes (with the first 10 of those being a scene of nude girls running like Baywatch lifeguards through a steamy locker room..how unrealistic can you be?) Well, sorry to ruin the ending to the movie and book but here is what is wrong with the movie:
***If you are planning to see the movie or read the book, skip this part***
1) The scene with the guys at the table eating and then toasting “Duddits, our dreamcatcher.”
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED: The scene doesn’t exsist..Jonsey and Henry didn’t realize that duddits was their dreamcatcher until the very end..
2) The scene were Pete leaves the comotose lady to get beer and comes back and gets drunk and talks about Duds being an alien.
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED: First, Pete uses his gift to find a place to bring the lady, they bring her there on a tarp, not carrying her..then Pete, whose leg keeps locking up STRUGGLES to get back to the car..on the way, he gets scred by the exodus of animals, then when he gets the beer, he cuts his hand on a bottle that was broken in the car accident..that is when he gets infected with the “byrus” or “Ripley” fungus..while at the car, he day dreams about Duddits and writes his name in the snow with his finger (rather than peeing it) and then goes back..on the way, his leg locks up SO bad, that he falls down and all of the beer bottles break..so he wasn’t that drunk..he gets back and sees the path that the “byrum” or “shit-weasel” makes and figures out that it’s above him on the fallen tin roof thingy and he can barley move, but he grabs a burning branch and then the scene occurs..
3) Mr. Gray (in the shape of Jonesy) turned into a large “shit-weasel” and devoured Pete.
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED: Pete dies of the “byrus/Ripley” fungus that eats away at his body and face..Mr. Gray (who is in Jonesy’s mind) doesn’t taste murder until later on..
4) The aliens screamed “We are helpless. There is no infection here. We are dying.” Then turn into giant “byrum/shit-weasels” got in their ship and it selfdestructed.
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED: The aliens are really just entities without form and the form they get (the grays) are from Jonesy and other’s minds..the Blue Boy Group destroyed the ship..Mr. Gray was a combination of the “bad” in Jonesy..The first time Kurtz heard the voices is when own Underhill brought in a recording of them..they were famous voices and repeated the messages in French (which they joked that was the only other language up there)..
5) The Blue Boy Group walked around without masks.
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED: Blue Boy Group wore masks because the “byrus/Ripley” could’ve been inhaled..They later took it off when they were infected..the ones that weren’t infected took their masks off when they saw the byrus/ripley start to turn gray and die..
6) Henry and Owen weren’t infected.
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED: Yes they were..it helped them talk telepathically..at least until the byrus died..
7) Owen was convinced SO easily and so he rammed his vehicle into the side of the barn to get Henry.
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED: Owen knew about the “intelligent” byrus that gave everyone telepathy..so he wasn’t convinced about his family, but he decided to talk to Henry outside a barn smoking a cigarette as a cover..THAT’s when Henry told him that the byrus would die in our atmosphere..also, he attained the barn or shed or whatever by scaring some people that were high..Henry wanted to get a lot of people out safely..Owen just wanted to leave..but Henry devised a plan..he went into the barn were the byrus infected people were staying and used his telepathy and those of the 4 high people as a dreamcatcher to send telepathic thoughts to the other infected people..he got them to all attack the guards as a diversion..Owen cut the fence and got Henry into a Snow vehical thingy..at SNO CAT or something..the guards shot at their vehicle..the infected folks either killed off the guards or telepatichally told them that Kurtz planned to kill them so they were on their side..in the end the high-ranking officials were killed off and many of the infected people (now not so infected) survived..After the SNO CAT, Henry made the 4 soldiers drinking tea in a Humvee to think Kurtz told them to go back to Blue Base..that’s how they got in a better equiped vehicle..Kurtz, his current second in command (which I can’t remember the name of), and his secretary Archie “Pearly” Pearmutter drove after themin a Humvee..the only electrical things that worked in the Blue Zone were cars, helicopters, and that tape recorder, so they weren’t tracked by a hidden transmitter..they were tracked by Pearly who had the Byrus and Byrum groing inside him and he psychically saw through Owen, Henry, and Mr. Gray’s kidnapped dog to see where they were..
8) Mr. Gray in the shape of Jonesy ate the driver on the road that was carying an alien and drove to Quabbin Resevoir, Massechusettes to get the “shit-weasel” or byrum into the water.
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED: Mr. Gray is in Jonesy’s mind, so he cannot change into the huge byrum..what happens is that Mr. Gray gets into the driver Janus or Janas his name is and makes him poke out his own eye with a pen that was in the driver’s visor held by a rubberband..that was the FIRST time he murdered anyone..while Mr. Gray was occupying the driver’s body, Jonesy went out into his “memory warehouse” (which until now, he didn’t know he had) and got the “Duddits” boxes (that were marked in black crayon) all except one (that had the lunch box) and a few “Derry” boxes..then went back to the Tracker’s Brothers’ office (where Mr. Gray couldn’t get to)..by now, Mr. Gray (who I pictured to have Jonesy’s voice) is becoming more human and getting frustrated..starts to have tantrums..the first reference to water was when Mr. Gray found a file (of Jonesy’s memory) that was about the water place in Derry..well, when Mr. Grey got there, he didn’t find it..then Jonesy tells him about how the bad winter storm in ‘84/’85 made it fall and gallons and gallons of water flooded the city..there written on the memorial was an “It” allusion: “PENNYWISE LIVES”..then Mr. Gray found out that the Quabbin Resevoir was a great place to infect everyone..and tied in with that knowledge was Jonesy’s memory of an Urban Legend about a Russion woman who went to Tunnel/Vent/Whatever #12..that’s why Mr. Gray had to hike so far to get there..on the way, as a bargin, Mr. Gray went to a Breakfast place called Dysart’s (which was nicknamed “Dry Farts”) and he ate bacon (which he LOVED) and in the bathroom (which he hated) he made a state trooper banghis head against the wall until he was dead and Mr. Gray (getting info from Jonesy’s movie memories) dragged him behind a dumpster..then Mr. Gray stole the State Trooper’s car..during this time, Jonesy called through a mentally appearing telephone to Henry that used a pistol as a phone..I pictured him looking like he was going to kill himself..that’s how Henry knew about Quabbin..Mr. Gray (with the help of Duds, Henry, and Jonesy) was made again hungry for bacon and he stopped at a small “Gosselin’s” like store and got raw bacon, bread, and mayo..and made the store owner stab his fingers in his nose almost all of the way..on the way out, Mr. Gray threw up the raw sandwiches he ate..then he got stuck in a fault in the road outside the water place..Mr. Gray wanted the dog in the water so that the byrum would last longer being born there..at the end, Jonesy’s hip was broken and he couldn’t walk..
9) Dudits’ mom let him go easily and packed his lunchbox full of medicine and said “Bye, I love you”.
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED: Duddit’s realized that Beaver and Pete were dead and in heaven and was crying..later he got ready on his own (hard for him being weak and all, but worth it) and got ready because he knew Henry and Owen were coming..His mom didn’t want him to go..if he did go, she wanted to go with them..the medicine instructions were told to Owen, who had a father die of cancer, and the pills were put in a brown paper bag and his lunch in his lunch box..Roberta (the mom) got really upset to see him leave..
10) After arriving at the Quabbin, Owen got out and told the others to stay down..Owen gets shotdown by Kurtz in a helicopter and also shoots up the Humvee Henry and Duds are in and those two get out just before it explodes..Henry shoots the head off of the byrum and goes in and Mr. Gray has to convince him that he’s Jonesy..red stuff (Mr. Gray) comes out..an egg comes out of the byrum and hatches and Jonesy smashes the hatchling while standing on his broken hip..
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED: By the time they reach the Quabbin, Henry and Dudits’ minds are locked with Jonesy’s trying to kill Mr. Gray..so they are practically asleep and with Duddit’s hemoraging, they look dead..Owen gets them to lay down and shoots out the window so Saf-T-Glass in on them..Kurtz and his second see it and think Owen killed them..Henry and Jonesy gives Mr. Gray form in Jonesy’s mind and they strangle him..THAT’s how Mr. Gray dies..He dies just went he was shoving the dog down the tunnel..the byrum starts to come out of the dog’s butt and Jonesy grabs the tail and swings it back into the room..Owen stood at the broken window and can’t bring up his gun because he can’t believe what he is seeing..but Duddits uses his last amount of strength and gets Owen to shoot the byrum..it didn’t lay an egg because it hasn’t fed enough..Jonesy can’t move so Owen goes to get Henry..on the way back, Kurtz and maybe his second shoots Owen..then Kurtz’s second shoots Kurtz (if you don’t know by now, he’s the one played by Morgan Freeman, who also started in the Shawshank Redemption, based on Stephen King’s “Different Seasons”) because he know Kurtz will kill him..
